It was a cold rainy day in January, so Bret Winingar and his son Zach went for a ride on their motorbike through the back roads near Little Rock, Arkansas.
Suddenly, they discovered an abandoned crate off to the side of the road, behind some bushes. They stopped their bikes and looked inside the box more closely.
Both were awful what they saw inside the box and its top had been chewed through all the way. It looked like whatever was inside was desperately trying to get out.
What they found inside was both awful.
Bret and Zach saw that the top of the carrier had been fully chewed. It looked like whoever was inside was deeply trying in a full effort to come out.
Once they opened the box, a big black dog was trapped in it and of her own fences. This needy dog had been stranded in it for a very long time. Her skin and bones had stumbled out and she had cuts and scrapes all over her hips, spine, head and legs.
The period of her Imprisonment is unknown, but Bret shared that it was considerable time for her nails went to back her paws, making it hard to walk and long enough for her to attempt to chew out the top of her plastic box in a crazy of hunger and claustrophobia.
Claustrophobia is an intense fear of confined or enclosed spaces. The difference between a fear and a phobia is that a phobia is an intense and irrational fear toward one or more things or situations.
The rescue
They had to leave the dog behind because they were on their motorcycles and it was essential to get Zach’s truck and some food quickly. They expected she would still be there when they returned with Zach’s truck and some food.
It’s heartwarming, she was still waiting there.
The two came back home speedily but one of the bikes ran out of gas, which resulted in a delay.
Once they reached home, they brought the truck and came back to the place, not hoping the dog would still stand there.
“I was amazed to see her in the box that had recently been her previous jail and I was nervous when she didn’t move as we approached.” Bret added, “I felt that we were too late. But luckily, I heard an almost inaudible growl, and I thought, ‘if you’ve got enough strength to growl, you’ve got enough power to live.’”
Putting her delicately into the truck, Bret and Zach took her home, where she would unite the family and their already lived dogs. They called her Charlie Bravo after they found her. In a short period, she became a sweet blacky girl and found her own voice.
After Charlie’s saving, she is lucky to have the best life! She enjoys her days going on adventures with her owners, playing with her new canine friends or cozying up in bed. She’ll never be sealed again in a crate.
Bret writes, “Charlie was rejected in her crate, skin over bones when we saw her. To us, that box is similarity for every person that lives in a self-imposed prison…Charlie is beautiful and happy and blossoming today. She recalls us that with a little help, we can do that too.”
It is always heartwarming to read and write about abused pets. We are so thankful for Charlie Bravo’s rescuers.
